Big news for families in the UAE! The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) UAE has rolled out an update that empowers working mothers to take over the residency sponsorship of their children. This change offers a new path for families dealing with residency violations, ensuring children can stay legally, even if the father’s residency status is compromised. If you’re a working mum, you’re officially in charge!

Under the new rule, if a father’s residency status falls out of order, he can now transfer his children’s sponsorship to the mother, provided she holds a valid residency permit and is employed. This smooth switch ensures the children’s residency remains legal without interruptions. Families opting to leave the country together must apply for exit permits within the grace period, allowing them to depart without fines or penalties.

The ICP clarified that even if the head of the family wishes to stay with his current employer, the employer must follow the official channels to renew his work permit. Alternatively, if the worker wishes to change jobs, the new employer can apply for a work permit through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The system offers flexibility, ensuring no family member falls through the cracks while regularising their status.

Grace Period Countdown: Time’s Running Out!

The ICP has provided violators a golden opportunity to regularise their status without financial penalties but the clock is ticking. The grace period, announced last month, will officially end on October 31st, and no extensions will follow. Families must act fast to adjust their status before the deadline, as the penalties will resume in full force from November 1st, with intensified campaigns to track down violators.

During this grace period, families can exit the UAE without fines or bans, reinforcing the UAE’s focus on a compassionate approach. The ICP aims to foster a secure environment that balances law enforcement with social cohesion and economic stability. The goal is to enhance the UAE’s reputation as a tolerant, humanitarian society where fairness and legal compliance go hand-in-hand.

Conclusion

The updated rules come as a relief for many working mothers in the UAE, giving them more control over their children’s residency. With the grace period ending soon, families have a limited window to correct their status and avoid future penalties. If you or someone you know is dealing with residency issues, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this opportunity.
