IMD Issues Severe Heatwave Warnings In Northwest India Till May 28; Rajasthan Records Max Temp Of 49°C On Friday

The hot days are here to stay in Northwest India! As per the latest weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), severe heatwaves will continue to loom over several states in Northwest India till May 28. The temperatures will also continue to soar in this part of the country. On Friday, Rajasthan recorded the season’s highest temperature at 49°C in the Phalodi region.

Severe Heatwaves To Take Over Northwest India, No Respite Anytime Soon

According to IMD’s latest forecast, there is no respite from the heat for Northwest India. The meteorological department said that there will be no rains in this region anytime soon and has issued heatwave warnings in several states till May 28. This includes Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh.

Isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will also experience heatwave conditions on May 27 and 28. The soaring temperatures and heatwaves are taking a toll on people across all age groups. It is especially notable for workers who are either exposed to the sun for a prolonged period or doing heavy work during the day.

Temperatures Soar In Rajasthan, Delhi & Other States

Rajasthan is experiencing a hot summer so far. On Friday, Rajasthan’s Phalodi saw the mercury rise to 49°C! This was the highest temperature recorded in the region this season. The temperature reached a sizzling 48.2℃ in Barmer, 48.3℃ in Jaisalmer, and hovered between 44 to 47°C in the rest of the state. According to IMD, the temperatures are likely to rise by 2℃ in the state after May 25.

Not just Rajasthan, but other Northwest India states are also experiencing a higher than average temperature. Delhi is also witnessing 1-2℃ above-normal temperatures. On polling day today, the city is likely to see the temperature soar to 44℃!
