Any official activity regarding passport applications is completely stopped during this period.

Here’s Why The Online Passport Portal Will Be Down For 5 Days

Starting August 29, the Passport Seva online portal is shutting down its services. The decision to shut it down for the next five days has been taken for technical maintenance, the official website stated. This is the reason why there will be no scheduling of new passport appointments and booked appointments will get rescheduled later.

If you open the online Passport Seva portal, a notification will pop up on your screen stating “Passport Seva portal will be down for technical maintenance from August 29 2024, Thursday 20:00 hrs IST to September 2, Monday 06:00 hrs IST. System will not be available during this period for citizens and for all MEA/RPO/BOI/ISP/DoP/Police Authorities. The already booked appointments for August 30, 2024, will be suitably rescheduled and informed to applicants.”

What Is The Reason Behind The Planned Maintenance Advisory?

The External Affairs Ministry stated that technical maintenance is a routine procedure. Activities like this for a public-centric service are usually planned in advance to avoid causing any inconvenience to the public. There are contingency plans to reschedule appointments as well, according to a report by NDTV. This is why rescheduling an appointment will not be a challenge.

The online Passport Seva portal’s primary purpose is to allow people to book appointments at centres nationwide. The appointments are regarding applying for new passports or the process of passport renewal.
