But what if you could walk those hallowed halls after dark, feel the weight of gladiator armour, and test your skills against fellow warriors? Well, now you can. For the first time ever, the Colosseum will be opened after dark, offering a private, immersive experience that lets you step into the shoes of a true gladiator.

After the sun sets, the Colosseum will come alive in torchlight, and your journey will begin. Greeted by a master of ceremonies, you’ll enter the ancient arena where history was made, descending into the hypogeum—the very underground chambers where gladiators once prepared for battle. 

Once you’ve chosen your gladiator type (will you be a murmillo, thraex, provocator, retiarius, or Andabatae?), you can don the authentic armour and step into the labyrinthine passageways. As you enter the arena, the sound of clashing swords and shields will fill the air. Before you know it, it will be your turn to face off against your fellow warriors. Under the watchful eye of a summa rudis—your referee—you’ll battle for glory. After the action, you will also get to enjoy a modest feast with fruits like grapes, pomegranates, almonds, and walnuts to replenish your strength.
