India Makes It To Top 100 On Global Sustainable Development Goals List
Showing its commitment to global sustainability targets, India has made it to the top 100 out of 193 countries in the global Sustainable Development Goals rankings for the first time. As per the report published on June 24, India secured the 99th place on the 2025 SDG Index with a score of 67.
This achievement highlights India’s progress in key areas such as poverty reduction, clean energy adoption, and improved access to education and healthcare. While there is still a long way to go, India’s entry on the top 100 list on Sustainable Development Goals index shows the impact of focused policy efforts and grassroots initiatives taken by India.
According to The Hindu, the Nordic nations continued to maintain their dominance at the top of Sustainable Development Goals index. Finland secured first place, followed by Sweden and Denmark in second and third place, respectively. Europe, in general, dominated the list with a total of 19 out of the top 20 countries being from the continent. Here’s what the top 10 list, along with their score, looks like –

2. Sweden – 85.74
3. Denmark – 85.26
4. Germany – 83.67
5. France – 83.14
6. Austria – 83.01
7. Norway – 82.72
8. Croatia – 82.39
9. Poland – 82.08
10. Czech Republic – 81.94

While European nations topped the Sustainable Development Goals rankings, the report found that East and South Asian countries have outperformed all other global regions, in terms of SDG progress, since 2015. They found that due to rapid socioeconomic development, countries like Nepal, Cambodia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Mongolia demonstrated commendable progress.
