Diwali, the festival of lights, gives Delhiites the best chance to party in style. From gorging on delicious mithai, playing cards, decking up in the finest ethnic attire to attending parties, it’s the best time of the year indeed. But how can the celebrations be complete without liquor? Well, in just two days of Diwali, Delhiites downed 20 lakh bottles of liquor. Here’s all about it.

Delhi Downs 20 Lakh Bottles In Just 2 Days Of Diwali

According to a report by India Today, liquor sales in Delhi skyrocketed by 25 per cent during Diwali. Delhiites drank around 20 lakh bottles of liquor. Just a day before the festival of lights, the sale of alcohol bottles in Delhi shot up to 15 lakh bottles in 24 hours. The average is just 11 lakh bottles.

Moreover, Delhi Police remained vigilant to prevent the illegal sale of adulterated liquor and bootlegging. They conducted multiple raids across bars and restaurants in Delhi. Liquor raids took place in Rajouri Garden’s Blinque, Punjabi Bagh’s Raftaar among others. Over 230 bottles of foreign liquor were seized. Many other restaurants served liquor in Delhi during Diwali, without a license. They weren’t spared either.

Capital Witnesses Poor Air Quality After Diwali

When it comes to Delhi’s air quality after Diwali, here’s the news. While Delhi’s air quality has improved 2 days after Diwali, it still remains in the ‘very poor’ category. The pollution levels in the capital a day after Diwali were also their lowest since 2015. The reasons for this are warm and windy weather that diluted the effects of the smoky air.
