Tales Of Abandonment In Kuldhara

The origins of Kuldhara’s ominous reputation date back to the 18th century, during the reign of the Rajput king, Salim Singh. Kuldhara was once a prosperous and thriving village inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins. However, the village fell victim to a series of tragic events that led to its downfall and eventual abandonment.

The tale goes that Salim Singh cast his eyes upon the village and developed an insatiable desire for a young girl from Kuldhara. He demanded that the village chief hand over the girl to him, threatening dire consequences if his demand was not met. In response to this tyranny, the entire village, led by the Paliwal Brahmins, made a collective decision to abandon their homes and relocate to ensure the safety and honour of their community.

Legend has it that before leaving, the villagers placed a curse on Kuldhara. They vowed that no one would ever be able to settle within its boundaries. As a result, the village was left desolate and untouched with houses still intact and belongings left behind. As if its residents had vanished into thin air!
