India will recognise as the official country of honour during the Cannes Film Market. The festival will start from May 17 to May 25 2022. The country commemorates its 75th year of independence, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. A brand new restoration of Indian cinema legend Satyajit Ray’s rare film Pratidwandi will also show in an exclusive screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14.

What Will Be Presented At Cannes Film Market?

According to a news release published by the festival, Pratidwandi is restored as part of the National Film Heritage Mission. This project is carried out by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Indian Government. Known Indian cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee is in charge of supervising the grading of the restoration. However, the restoration takes place at Prime Focus Technologies Mumbai, India. As a result, the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) presents the repaired version (NFDC).

Another Hollywood classic, Singin’ in the Rain, will premier in its fresh new 4K restoration alongside Pratidwandi. It will get its premiere on the Boulevard de la Croisette, where the 1952 Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen picture got its premiere. It chronicles the transition from silent film to sound cinema.  On Saturday, the restoration of the Indian film Thamp (The Circus Tent), directed by Aravindan Govindan in 1978, will world premiere at the movie gala.
