Finfluencer Anushka Rathod took our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani around the gullies of Surat to dive into the city’s craziest street food dishes, discuss all things business and fun. Over iconic Gujarati dishes, Anushka Rathod lightheartedly revealed why she identifies herself as ‘khichdi’, every Gujarati household’s comfort dish.
Anushka Rathod Talks About Her Khichdi-Like Origin
Anushka Rathod and Kamiya Jani’s first pit-stop was at Lijjat Khawsa Centre. The finfluencer specifically told the vendor to prepare the dishes meticulously as she wanted Kamiya’s Gujarati street food experience to be nothing but the best. The women slurped on Khawsa, inspired by Khao Suey. Like the Burmese dish, Khawsa also comes with noodles and spicy broth. The Gujarati twist here is spicy chutney and crunchy crackers. A recipe brought by Burmese immigrants in Gujarat, Khawsa weaves the flavours of the two nations beautifully.
As the duo slurped on Khawsa, and sipped Sosyo ( a Surati cold drink that can give any cola a run for its money), Kamiya asked Anushka Rathod about her native place. Describing it to be a ‘khichdi’, Anushka said her father is a Mewadi, her mother, a Marwadi and she is originally from Rajasthan. Born in Mumbai, brought up in Surat, Hindi is a bridge that connects her Mewadi father and Marwadi mother. No wonder, she calls her origins, a ‘khichdi’.

The Finfluencer Grew Up Eating Sweet Gujarati Food
While talking about the food she has grown up eating, like most Gujaratis, even Anushka Rathod prefers her dal to be sweet. Hilariously, she admits to enjoying the sweet Surati sambar so much that she’d probably dislike the one prepared in South India. Pulao, kadhi and even curd has sugar in it, says Anushka.
The finfluencer took Kamiya to her favourite haunts like Janni Locho House, Shreeji Locho House and A1 Cold Coco. In this finance meets food episode, the duo ate legendary lochos including a chocolate variant, bonded over bhajiyas and spoke about what makes Gujaratis a whizz in businesses.
