Dibyendu Bhattacharya Got His First Paycheck From NSD; Shared All About His Acting Journey

Actor par excellence, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, invited our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a mouth-watering Bengali feast at his home in Mumbai. The authentic home-style feast featured a slice of Kolkata’s culinary heritage, featuring dishes like Begun Bhaja, Macher Sorshebhatar Jhaal, Mango Dal, Dim Aaloo Bhate and more. While enjoying the meal with Kamiya, Dibyendu spoke about his first paycheck, his life at the National School of Drama (NSD) and more.

Dibyendu Bhattacharya’s First Paycheck Was ₹5500

While enjoying the Sunday Brunch with Dibyendu and his wife, Richa, the Bollywood actor keenly spoke about how he prepared the Mughlai Mutton Rezala and the Macher Sorshebhatar Jhaal. Earlier, the actor gave Kamiya a tour of his kitchen and even prepared some of the dishes in front of her. His ultimate comfort meal? Just dal, rice and Begun Bhaja or brinjal fritters. Having married Richa, a Punjabi woman, the Bhattacharya household celebrates both Bengali and Punjabi cuisines.

Dibyendu Bhattacharya revealed that he wanted to get into a prestigious school to study acting. Studying in a renowned school would give him the confidence and even set him up for life in the field of performing arts. His first paycheck was ₹5500 for acting in a play in 1997. It was his first year of his job after graduating from NSD. He remembered rehearsing in the morning with his team and putting up a show on the stage in the evening.

The Actor Cooked A Bengali Feast

Kamiya also tried Mocha, raw banana flower, which Dibyendu explains takes half a day to peel. Undoubtedly, this vegetarian dish is his favourite thing to eat. Later, he also played ‘This or That’ with Kamiya, where she asked me to pick between different Bengali dishes. A tough one, of course! The passionate foodie cum chef cum actor loved explaining everything about Bengali cuisine. Later, the trio enjoyed Tomato Chutney, which was a pre-dessert, scooped with papad. The Bengali feast ended with a helping of Mishti Doi and Rasagulla.
