During an episode of Tere Gully Mein, finance met food and took the streets of Surat by storm! To give our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani a taste of Surat’s crazy street food, finance influencer Anushka Rathod took her for a food trail around the city, and they tried some of the most iconic Surati treats. Here’s how it went down.
Anushka Rathod & Kamiya Jani Try Delicious Surati Treats
Surat’s street food is renowned for its creativity and flavours, and when finance influencer Anushka Rathod took our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, on a food trail around the city, it was bound to be a memorable experience! The trail started at Lijjat Khawsa Centre, where the duo tried khawsa–the Gujarati version of Burmese dish khow suey. Of course, they paired it with Gujarat’s very own cola drink, Sosyo.
They also made a pitstop at Rekhaben’s Namkeen, which is famous for offering 200 types of khakras, among other Gujarat snacks. When in Surat, you cannot miss locho. It was a dish that was made by mistake but has now become one of the most popular street snacks in Surat. Anushka Rathod took us to Janni Locho House and Shreeji Locho House, and we did a taste test to check which one we liked better! You have to check out the YouTube video to see who emerged as the winner in this battle.
Next, they headed to A1 Cold Coco to try some Cold Chocolate. Anushka explained that the dish is made by mixing cocoa in milk, and the mixture is then thickened by heating it over a stove. The thickened mixture is then left to cool between ice. Then, the drink was served over shaved ice, and it was truly delicious!

The Trail Continues!
Before heading to our last destination–Sai Bhajiya Centre–we stopped to grab a quick bite, which is called biscuit pie. Of course, we needed Anushka Rathod to break down the dish for us, and she explained that the base of the dish was made with khari, and it came with pizza toppings and cheese. According to Anushka, it can also be called a savoury croissant as it has layers and all.
At Sai Bhajiya Centre, we dug into Tamatar Bhajiya (a local favourite), Aloo Bhajiya, and the unique Ratalu Bhajiya—found mostly in and around Surat. Served with a sweet kadhi to balance the spice, this bhajiya platter made for a food experience we won’t forget!
