Geeta Basra Talks About Her First Break In Bollywood
Geeta Basra, who is now back on the big screen with Mehar, got candid about her personal and professional life on this episode of Sunday Brunch. She called her work her “happy place” and shared how she got her first break in Bollywood. Geeta, who grew up in the UK, always dreamed of working in films. Since she was new to Mumbai, Kamiya asked her if it had been tough, considering so many people arrive daily in the city with big dreams and stars in their eyes.
Geeta replied that she considers herself “blessed” because many aspiring actors struggle for at least 5-6 years before landing their first film. She added, “I came in 2004 and my first film came out in 2006 (Dil Diya Hai).” She revealed that she got the role soon after finishing her acting classes with Kishore Namit Kapoor.
How Destiny Played A Role
Geeta also shared that one of her batchmates at acting class was Shanu, the son of the iconic actor, screenwriter, and producer Kader Khan. Shanu introduced her to his uncle, a manager, who later connected her with filmmaker Aditya Datt, director of her first film. She believes this was destined for her, and it’s a reason why she didn’t have to struggle too much. Kamiya was surprised to know about this and called it a case of “manifestation”. Geeta also spoke about how important a good support system is in an actor’s journey.
During the episode, she made us tasty Paranthas, and since we were in a Punjabi household, they came with extra ghee, making them tastier. We also spoke about her marriage with Harbhajan Singh and her career struggles before wrapping this fun episode.
