In this Sunday Brunch episode, Geeta Basra, actress and wife of legendary cricketer Harbhajan Singh, invited our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a delicious brunch. Stepping into a Punjabi household means ghee-loaded Paranthas, Rajma Chawal, and much more. This fun episode saw Geeta getting candid like never before. She opened up about her life in the UK, her career, and even the pressure of being a cricketer’s wife.
Geeta Basra On Her Marriage To A Cricketer
Geeta Basra, who has finally made a comeback on the big screen with Mehar, shares that she is in a happy place. Growing up in the UK and still considering Mumbai her favourite city in the world has many reasons. Her marriage, kids, career, and everything else has made Mumbai feel very close to her. But being the wife of a cricketer is not easy. On this Sunday Brunch episode, she opened up to Kamiya about the pressure of being a cricketer’s wife.
We all know that if cricketers play well, their wives or girlfriends don’t get credit. But if they don’t play well, the wives and girlfriends of players often become targets on the internet. When asked if she had ever faced such situations, Geeta replied, “I don’t know, social media was not so popular at that time” (during the time she dated Harbhajan Singh). She also added that now, since social media is easily accessible, people find it easier to target and blame anyone if the players do not perform well.

She Believes In Balance
Geeta Basra also revealed that during those times, wives and girlfriends were not allowed to travel with the Indian cricket team. But now, times have changed, and partners usually travel with the players. The conversation then turned to whether girlfriends and wives should be allowed to travel with players. Geeta shared her personal opinion, saying, “There should be a balance.” She added that long schedules abroad can feel very lonely for the players, and it is important to have family around.
She also added that during the time Harbhajan Singh used to play, she often felt lonely when he was away for long schedules, and it could get really tough. Our conversation happened not only over Punjabi food but also a hearty spread of Gujarati snacks like Dhokla and Patra. Since she grew up in the UK amidst the Gujarati community, her love for these snacks was evident. We then talked some more and played our signature game, ‘Who’s Most Likely To’, before wrapping up this fun episode!
