Whether it was his comic roles on television or his hilarious social media characters like Shopkeeper, Chutki, and Billi Maasi, Gaurav Gera has long been one of the country’s most loved comedians. Now, with Dhurandhar, he showed a new side and revealed an evolution as an actor and a depth that you’d rarely expect from an actor at 50! On the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, we met the talented actor at his Mumbai home, where he opened up like never before. He also whipped up a meal for our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, and shared his love for cooking.
Gaurav Gera Loves To Cook
This Sunday Brunch was extra special because the entire meal was prepared by Dhurandhar’s Aalam Bhai, aka Gaurav Gera! The talented actor made sure to keep the spread delicious and hearty, and when a shocked Kamiya asked him if he prepared the entire meal, he revealed his love for cooking.
“I cook, I love to cook. Main apne saree meals banata hun–all of them! But haan, sirf yahan banata hun, jab Bombay hota hun…Delhi main toh bilkul nahi banata!” he candidly shared. In fact, as a child, he wanted to become a chef. He shared that he had a list of possible career choices, which included becoming a fashion designer, an actor, and even a smuggler, an idea inspired by the many Bollywood films he watched.

What Was On The Sunday Brunch Menu?
For Sunday Brunch, Gaurav Gera prepared a special spread featuring aloo gobhi, Punjabi kadhi, rice, and some pickles on the side. Now, let it be known that he did run into a few cooking mishaps along the way—the rice was slightly burnt, he initially forgot to add onions to the kadhi (something Kamiya later suggested fixing by roasting them separately), and the potatoes in the aloo gobhi were a bit overdone. He also almost forgot to prepare the tadka for the kadhi, but quickly corrected it because, according to him, the dish is incomplete without it.
