On our latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met with the talented artist, where he not only tried Mumbai street foods like vada pav, misal pav, and more for the first time but also gave a sneak peek into his life. Read on to know all about his love for food.
Karan Aujla Loves To Cook This Dish

While speaking about his love for food, he shared that he doesn’t crave Indian food when he is in India, but whenever he is travelling abroad. He even compared Indian food in India vs. Indian food in Canada. Yes, he loves to eat Indian food in Canada, but he still finds more comfort and authenticity here in India. Especially when it comes to popular dishes like butter chicken, he feels that they are too sweet in Canada.
It’s clear that he’s a foodie, but does he know how to cook as well? Apparently, he does. He revealed that he loves to make tawa chicken. When he lived in Vancouver, he used to set up a big tawa in his backyard and prepare the whole dish himself, like a halwai. A tricky part of his cooking is that while he can follow recipes step by step, he can never remember them. So every time he makes a dish, he has to play the video all over again and do everything step by step. Every time he makes the dish, it turns out great. “Whenever you cook something with love, chahe vo khana ho ya gaana ho, it always turns out good,” he says.
His Journey To Becoming A Singer
Now a super-popular artist across the world, Karan Aujla did not have a smooth childhood. He lost both his parents when he was just 9 years old. But even today, he feels their presence often. While he may not remember how his mother’s food tasted, he definitely remembers the feeling of being fed by her.
Shedding light on how he found his way toward singing, he revealed that he started his career writing for other singers. However, that did not work out for him because neither was he getting paid well, and in many cases, he wasn’t even getting credit for his lyrics. That made him decide that he would try singing his own songs to gain some popularity. But the lack of training, singing experience, or exposure made him worried.
However, he decided to finally give it a shot, and the rest is history. Even today, whenever he is about to step on the stage, seconds before the moment, he still questions himself. When he finally gets on the stage, he creates magic; he feels it’s the presence of his parents that pushes him.
