Why Does Riteish Deshmukh Call Aftab Shivdasani “Zomato”? The Reason Is Relatable!

On a Sunday Brunch episode filled with laughter, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, relished a hearty meal with Mastiii 4 gang, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Shreya Sharma and Ruhi Singh. While the men fought for kebabs, the women dazzled the screen. Riteish even hilariously revealed why he calls Aftab “Zomato”, and the reason is relatable!

For Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Is ‘Zomato’

The episode started with Kamiya Jani thanking Aftab Shivdasani for being the first guest of our Sunday Brunch show in 2019. The actor enjoyed a Sindhi meal with Kamiya and even thanked her for feeding him the best Sindhi Kadhi after his grandmother’s. First, she asked the Mastiii 4 trio if they had familiarised each other with their native cuisines.

To this, Ritiesh immediately credited Aftab by calling him the “Zomato” of their gang. What’s the reason for this? Ritiesh recalls that on the first day on Mastiii 4 sets in Mumbai, the shoot was halted due to light showers. The actor stepped into his co-star, Aftab’s van. There, Aftab called for his assistant, who trotted in holding two massive files. Vivek and Ritiesh assumed the files held pages of scripts.

Aftab Has Files Filled With Restaurant Menus

But the files actually contained restaurant menus. Each file, neatly labelled, contained physical copies of menus of restaurants in the neighbourhood. Divided neighbourhood-wise, the menus were intriguing yet armed the foodie with details that would help him pick the right spot for his next meal. Ritiesh claims each file had at least 50 restaurant menus. “CBI ke paas kam files hai,” joked the actor.

Aftab revealed he maintained files with restaurant menus because online ordering hadn’t come into existence years ago. Since he didn’t have any other ways to discover new restaurants in the neighbourhood, he ended up eating Chinese food. Later, the passionate foodie devised a way to have all the menus at his fingertips! Literally! For this, he collected menus and filed them area-wise. Riteish Deshmukh joked, calling him a “menu chor”.

The actor’s favourite cuisine is Parsi food, which his mother lovingly brings to the set. Meanwhile, do you have a habit of saving online menus?
