Mumbai’s Independence Rock Festival, often called “I-Rock”, is one of India’s oldest and most loved rock and metal music festivals. But this year, the much-awaited event won’t be taking place, leaving rock music fans across the country disappointed and heartbroken. Here’s why the organisers took this decision.
Mumbai’s Iconic Independence Rock Festival 2025 Is Cancelled
Fans of rock music in India are disheartened, and the reason is fair. Mumbai’s iconic Independence Rock Festival will not take place this year. The news has been confirmed by both the organisers and the team behind the event. For those who don’t know, this legendary music festival began in 1986 at Rang Bhavan and completely changed Mumbai’s music scene. Over the years, it became a platform for Indian rock and metal bands, and a must-attend event for fans who travelled to Mumbai just to be part of it.
This update comes after fans eagerly waited for the festival’s return following its grand 30th edition in 2024. According to a report by Mid-Day, one fan asked the organisers on Instagram if the festival would return this year. To this, founder Farhad Wadia replied that, sadly, the show stands cancelled in 2025.

This Is Not A Goodbye!
Speaking to Mid-Day, the founders shared that after the 30th anniversary of Mahindra Independence Rock in 2024, the team decided to take a break to pause, reflect, and imagine what comes next. They also said that I-Rock is not just a music festival but a movement that unites generations of music lovers.
The I-Rock team added that instead of rushing into another edition, they want to take time to explore and reimagine how to evolve the festival in tune with today’s soundscape and spirit. This means fans will have to wait a bit longer. Cheer up! It’s not a goodbye, just a temporary break.
While the festival began in 1986, it took a nine-year break before returning in 2022. Since its comeback, I-Rock has hosted lineups featuring Parikrama, Indus Creed, Thaikkudam Bridge, Avial, 13AD, Pentagram, Pineapple Express, Swarathma, and more. While the cancellation may feel like sad news, the organisers have made it clear that I-Rock will be back bigger and better!
