CT Review: I Thought Healthy Food Was Tasteless & Boring, Until Salad Days Changed My Mind

Salad Days

I’ll start with a confession–I’ve never really been a salad person! Eating raw veggies with a drizzle of dressing on top? Hard pass! But when you’re trying to eat healthier and subtly nudging my parents to do the same, you learn to compromise on your picky habits. That’s how I found myself ordering from Salad Days, the popular health-focused cloud kitchen everyone’s talking about. Here’s my honest take on whether it’s actually worth the hype.

Salad Days: Where Healthy Meets Delicious

A brainchild of Varun Madan, Salad Days was founded in 2014 and has, over the past decade, become the go-to spot for anyone looking for a cleaner, healthier diet. At this cloud kitchen, salads aren’t just a side that comes with a dish; they take centre stage!

You can choose from a vast menu of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, including vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, no onion, and no garlic varieties—or even build your own salad. Beyond salads, the menu also offers soups, pita pockets, sandwiches, meal bowls, desserts, and beverages. I ordered a selection of salads, soup, pita pockets, a smoothie, and dessert, and here’s my honest take on this popular health-focused cloud kitchen.

Salads That Pack A Punch

Let’s start with the dishes that gave this place its name! I ordered two salads and a meal bowl—Exotic Fruit Bowl, Falafel Farmer Salad, and Pesto Paneer Bowl. Starting with the dish that my family and I instantly fell in love with–Pesto Paneer Bowl.

Paneer tossed in basil pesto with pinto beans, corn salsa, pico de gallo, sautéed fajita vegetables, quinoa, and fresh greens isn’t just a protein-rich salad; it’s bursting with unexpected flavours. Their spicy signature Coastal Pachadi and crema de yoghurt complement the ingredients perfectly, and my parents polished off the bowl in no time!

The Exotic Fruit Bowl was a no-brainer. As a fruit lover, I couldn’t go wrong with this bowl featuring kiwis, grapes, oranges, apples, pineapples, pomegranate, sun melon, mint, and candied walnuts, all tied together with a refreshing lemon-honey dressing.

The Falafel Farmer Salad, however, was the only dish that didn’t quite hit the mark for me, and my family agreed. While the falafel and baked pita crisps were enjoyable on their own, the combination with other veggies and ranch didn’t quite work flavour-wise in the salad for me.

It’s Not Just Salads, Here’s What I Ordered!

Moving beyond salads, I tried the Carrot and Lentil Soup. It had a slightly sweet flavour, and while the spiced nut granola and chilli oil added some depth, it didn’t quite work for me. Next up was the Crispy Corn Fritter Pita Pocket, which, quite frankly, was my favourite of the entire meal. The corn fritters paired perfectly with the crunchy cabbage, tomato salsa, sriracha yoghurt, and hot sauce. It was easy to eat, full of flavour, and definitely something I’d order again.

I paired the meal with an Avocado Blueberry Smoothie, which was another great choice—simple, mildly flavoured, and absolutely delicious. For dessert, I decided to get a little adventurous and went for the Matchamisu, a unique twist on classic tiramisu with matcha. The fruit-soaked vanilla cake was layered with whipped matcha cream, and if you’re someone who likes matcha, then this creamy, earthy dessert is a good option. If not, I’d suggest you skip this one and opt for something safer like Jaggery & Almond Cake.

Final Verdict: Fresh, Flavorful & Worth Trying

All in all, I would definitely recommend Salad Days to anyone who loves experimenting with food, wants to try something new and healthy, or simply wants to enjoy a meal out without compromising their diet. As someone who isn’t usually a fan of salads, this place completely changed my perspective. It made me want to step out of my comfort zone, without actually stepping out of my home, and actually enjoy something new!
