Elon Musk marked his 55th birthday on Sunday with family and friends, and the best part of the celebration was a pair of spectacular space-inspired cakes. His mother, Maye Musk, shared glimpses of the occasion on Instagram, writing, “Happy birthday to my wonderful son. @elonmusk has given me 55 years of joy. It’s so much fun to celebrate with family and friends. His cake is a rocket and a moon base.”
The star highlight was a giant rocket-shaped cake inspired by SpaceX’s Starship. Printed in silver and black, the cake represented the iconic spacecraft standing on a launch pad. Rather than placing candles on top, they were arranged at the base of the rocket, resulting in the illusion of engines firing up as Musk leaned in to blow them out.
The venue was decorated with colourful balloons, gold streamers and a bright “Happy Birthday” banner, adding a festive element to the celebration.
Moon Base Cake Steals The Spotlight
The second cake highlighted a detailed Moon base, finished with a crater-covered surface, miniature spacecraft, astronauts, futuristic buildings and tiny mission vehicles. The textured grey finish gave it the look of the lunar landscape, while the detailed decorations reflected Musk’s fascination with space exploration.
The display was completed with several LEGO-style space models placed around the cakes, making the dessert table resemble a miniature space mission exhibit.
