Industrialist and RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka does not shy away from sharing his opinions about food, cuisines and even restaurants. This time, he talked about Benne and how the brand took itself from a 12-seater restaurant in Bandra to a nearly ₹350 crore business! He talked about some key points that have made Benne a success. Want to know about it? Then, keep reading!

How Did Benne In Bandra Become Successful?

Started by a husband-and-wife duo, Akhil Iyer and Shriya Narayan, Benne, a South Indian cafe, is now a roaring success. It started as a small 12-seater eatery in May 2024 in Bandra and has now turned itself into a massive ₹350 crore business with multiple outlets in Mumbai and New Delhi. But how did a brand that started just because a couple missed Bengaluru’s Benne dosas become so popular?

Harsh Goenka has now stated some factors which he thinks might be the reason behind their spectacular success. He listed six reasons, which included these:

  1. One hero product: Davangere-style butter dosa (Benne dosa).
  2. Small menu, which is easy to perfect and make every day.
  3. Electronic self-order + self-service, which creates engagement.
  4. Affordable, so that people can come and eat whenever they feel like it.
  5. Long queues outside their outlets, which helped create social media hype and attracted more customers.
  6. And lastly, prompt and good service.

Benne’s Bengaluru-Style Dosas Are A Hit Among Celebrities

Harsh Goenka also wrote, “Brilliant execution with some differentiation is the key.” And honestly, we agree with all the factors he listed. Benne, which sells Benne Dosas loaded with fresh butter, Podi Idlis, Thatte Idli, Filter Coffee and more, has really changed how people eat South Indian food. Unlike other South Indian restaurants, they don’t serve dosas with sambar. Instead, they pair them with chutney.

Benne has not just been a hit among local foodies but also celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. So, if you still haven’t tried their dosas, believe us, you are missing out on a great deal. Their pricing is reasonable and the taste is out of this world.
