A video shared on Instagram by Urvashi Agarwal, who goes by the username @bano.fitindia, has caught everyone’s attention. The clip shows at least 15- 20 cockroaches coming out of the outer packaging of a ghee jar. Urvashi, who is known on Instagram for exposing food safety issues, often posts these kinds of videos to create awareness among her followers. She stated that this video was sent to her by one of her followers from Ghatkopar, Mumbai. The woman had ordered organic ghee from Zepto, a well-known food delivery and e-commerce platform.

The user added that although she was given a refund, the bigger issue of hygiene and safety remains. She also said food safety is non-negotiable and urged Zepto to be more vigilant about hygiene standards at their storage facilities. The caption under the post read, “Think about the condition of the dark store this was shipped from. If cockroaches are coming with your groceries, what does that say about the storage hygiene? The handling of food? The safety standards? Some people might brush it off and move on. But should we? She also added, “The intention of this post is not to defame or target any brand, but to raise awareness around food safety concerns. We believe consumers have a right to demand safe, hygienically handled food products.”

Netizens React Strongly To The Clip

Many users were outraged by the video and shared their views in the comments section. One user wrote, “This is so crazy,” while another added, “ I’ve stopped using this app for ordering perishable items or eats. Their milk is sour 70% of the time. Their dairy products smell despite being within expiry. Extremely extremely pathetic!!” Another person commented that they only use Zepto to order electronics, as they don’t trust the app when it comes to food or groceries.

Some users also said that these online delivery apps are playing with consumers’ health and don’t take food safety seriously. The video is undoubtedly disturbing. Imagine ordering groceries online and finding cockroaches or other insects inside your delivery box.
