The internet is full of crazy food experiments, innovations and combos. But the combo we are talking about might just surprise you. It is created by France’s most loved buttery croissants and India’s favourite sweet, gulab jamun. In short, it is called a ‘Cromun’, created by L’Opéra, a high-end French pâtisserie and bakery chain in India. Would you dare to try this croissant variety?
What Is A Cromun?
The ‘Cromun’ is basically a croissant stuffed with gulab jamun inside. This unique combo of France’s buttery croissants and gulab jamun, our favourite dessert, has stirred a heated debate online. According to Firstpost, the combo is not something everyone knows about. It was created by L’Opéra Patisserie as part of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026. But yes, the hybrid has gone viral online.
According to L’Opéra’s website, Cromun is a fusion viennoiserie blending an Indian rose-flavoured sweet with the classic French croissant. At first, it looks like a usual golden-brown crescent-shaped croissant. But once you cut into it, it reveals a sugar syrup-soaked gulab jamun tucked inside its buttery layers. It is not fully a croissant, not completely a gulab jamun, but something in between.

Buttery Outside, Soft Gulab Jamun Inside
Just like L’Opéra’s authentic French croissant, the outside is flaky and buttery. But the centre is soft, moist, spongy and packed with that familiar taste of gulab jamun which we Indians love so much. In our opinion, it is a unique fusion that showcases two distinct culinary traditions, French and Indian.
And honestly, not everyone will love Cromun. If you like having croissants, we suggest you give this variety a try. Imagine serving gulab jamun stuffed croissants to your guests after dinner. The surprise on their faces would be worth seeing. The Cromun is listed for ₹165 on L’Opéra’s website, and yes, we can’t wait to try this unique dessert for ourselves.
