Maharashtra Milk Prices To Increase By ₹2
Major cooperative and private dairies have decided to increase the price of milk. This means that milk consumers across Maharashtra will have to pay ₹2 more from August 11. According to The Free Press Journal, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association chaired by its president, Gopalrao Mhaske.
Though the hike is marginal, the extra ₹2 every day will definitely add to the monthly budget. But what’s the reason behind this hike? Reportedly, the revision comes amid higher procurement, fuel and packaging costs faced by dairy operators across the state. According to the association, higher operating expenses have made the price increase necessary.

Price Hike Comes Amid Higher Fuel & Packaging Costs
According to The Free Press Journal, diesel prices have also increased by ₹10 per litre. This has significantly added to transportation and distribution costs for dairies. Moreover, packaging expenses have also increased by 30%. Not just milk, but consumers can also expect prices of several dairy products (foods made from milk) to rise. The association has made a decision to hike prices of dairy products by 10%.
The exact price increase would depend on the product and dairy company. The new price may affect household expenses, especially for families who purchase milk or dairy products like curd, paneer, butter, cheese and more daily. The hike can also make people increase the price of tea and coffee across the state.
