On this Sunday Brunch episode, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, sat down with Geeta Basra, an actress and the wife of legendary cricketer Harbhajan Singh. This Sunday Brunch was not just about food but also about having a heart-to-heart conversation with Geeta.
A Fun Sunday Brunch With Geeta Basra
This Sunday Brunch, which happened over a spread of Punjabi comfort food and Gujarati dishes, was full of fun, laughter, and, of course, food. Geeta Basra opened up about her life, her challenges, and her marriage to Harbhajan Singh. She and Kamiya had a conversation that touched on both the personal and professional aspects of her life.
But did you know Geeta Basra grew up in the United Kingdom and believes that destiny brought her to Mumbai? On this episode, she shared that sometimes she feels she came to Mumbai to work in films but “ended up finding her soulmate,” which she believes was always part of her destiny. She said, “Maybe my actual destiny was to come to Mumbai and find my life partner.” And that statement holds true, because it was in this city that she met and fell in love with legendary cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
Love, Cricket & Marriage
Geeta also shared, “Jabse Bhajji ne retirement li hai, tabse maine koi game nahi dekha,” (Since Bhajji retired, I haven’t watched any matches) when asked if she watches cricket. She revealed that when Harbhajan was playing, she would watch every single ball, even in Test matches. And if that doesn’t show her love for him, we don’t know what does.
Growing up in the UK, Geeta Basra shared that her life was very different from the one she has in Mumbai. She said Kajol’s character, ‘Simran’ from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, is the one she relates to most. Her family was strict about her upbringing but also understanding, which reminded her of Simran from the iconic movie.
After talking about her childhood in the UK and her love story, the episode continued with Aloo ke Paranthe with ghee, Rajma Chawal, Dhokla, Patra, and much more. All the homemade dishes were healthy! The episode ended with Curly Tales’ signature game of ‘Who’s Most Likely To’ before wrapping up this fun Sunday Brunch.
