Mumbai’s aviation scene is gearing up for a major change as IndiGo and the Air India Group prepare to shift select flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The move comes as Mumbai’s existing airport prepares for the redevelopment of Terminal 1, with airlines gradually redistributing their operations between the two airports. Here’s all you need to know about this.
Which IndiGo Flights Will Shift To Navi Mumbai Airport?
According to Moneycontrol, IndiGo will start shifting its international operations from February 2027, progressively transferring 12 daily international departures from Mumbai’s existing airport between February and July 2027.
The airline’s existing international services to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta are part of the transition. IndiGo also plans to introduce a new daily service to Kathmandu, taking its international network at Navi Mumbai to 12 destinations.
Alongside these international flights, IndiGo will shift the domestic services needed to connect passengers to its international operations at NMIA. The move is also expected to free up capacity at Mumbai’s existing airport, allowing the airline to expand its international network across Asia, Africa and Europe in 2027.
The final dates for individual flight transfers will be announced once coordination with the airport operator is complete and the required approvals are in place.

Air India Express To Shift Domestic & West Asia Flights
Air India Express will also gradually move select operations to Navi Mumbai International Airport, beginning with four daily domestic flights in December 2026.
From January 2027, the airline plans to operate existing services to Oman from NMIA and introduce planned services to Kuwait, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals. It will subsequently transition services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to the new airport.
The phased transition is expected to be completed by the IATA Northern Summer 2027 season. This means passengers flying with Air India Express to select destinations in West Asia may need to check whether their flight departs from CSMIA or NMIA before travelling.
What Should Passengers Know?
The shift is part of a wider plan to redistribute flight operations across Mumbai’s two airports as CSMIA prepares for the redevelopment of Terminal 1. The changes are intended to ease capacity constraints at the existing airport while allowing the redevelopment work to progress.
The transition will happen in phases rather than as a complete shift of airline operations from Mumbai’s existing airport. If you’re planning to fly with IndiGo or Air India Express from late 2026 onwards, make sure to check your ticket and confirm the departure airport before leaving for the airport.
