Flights at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Due to this, many Indian airlines like Air India and IndiGo were forced to cancel their flights for March 16, 2026. These airlines have urged customers to check their flight status before making their way to the airport. Here’s more on this.
Flights Suspended At Dubai International Airport
According to NDTV, a fire broke out near Dubai International Airport on March 16, 2026, after a drone-related incident in the area. This led to a temporary suspension of all flights at the airport as a precautionary safety measure. People were also advised not to go to the airport. All flights were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) amid ongoing operational disruptions.
After the Dubai airport closure, Air India and Air India Express had to cancel all flights to and from Dubai for March 16, 2026. Passengers who had their tickets booked were given the flexibility to either rebook for a future travel date or cancel their ticket and receive a full refund.
However, Air India Express’ ad-hoc flight operations to and from Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah will continue as announced. Air India has advised its customers to reach out to its helpline numbers for any queries.

IndiGo Restricts Flights To Dubai
Just like Air India and Air India Express, IndiGo also had to restrict flight operations in Dubai. Several of its flights scheduled between March 15 and 17 were affected. IndiGo requested its passengers check their flight status before leaving their homes for the airport.
According to NDTV, Air India and Air India Express had scheduled a total of 48 flights to and from the Middle East on March 16, 2026. Air India will operate one return flight service from Delhi and Mumbai. Air India Express will operate one flight each from Bengaluru, Kozhikode and Mangalore. Moreover, Air India Express will also operate 12 flights to Muscat.
