Mumbai has emerged as one of the best Asian cities for workcations thanks to its vibrant culture, according to the International Workplace Group’s (IWG) annual Work From Anywhere Barometer. While Tokyo topped the global list, Mumbai was highlighted as India’s top-ranking city, joining other leading Asian hubs in the 2025 rankings.
Mumbai Among Best Workcation Cities For 2025
The International Workplace Group (IWG) is a British company known for providing flexible workspace solutions. They promote flexible working, which can help enhance results and boost productivity. IWG has now released its third annual Work From Anywhere Barometer, which scores global cities across 12 criteria. These include climate, broadband speed, availability of flexible workspaces, digital nomad visas, and more. The scoring also considers a city’s proximity to beaches, mountains, and national parks.
Among other cities, Mumbai has made its appearance on the 2025 list with a strong impression. It scored 73 out of 120 and ranked 36th as an emerging workcation hub for professionals working remotely or in hybrid settings. The city boasts a bustling financial district and many flexi-work spaces. Beyond work, Mumbai stood out for its diversity. Iconic sights like the sparkling ‘Queen’s Necklace’ aka Marine Drive, its Art Deco buildings, and its rich culinary scene impressed the IWG panel. Mumbai’s vibrant culture, music, and refined urban experiences placed it alongside Asia’s leading economic centres!

The World’s Top 10 Workcation Cities For 2025
Curious about which other cities made it to the top 10? Tokyo topped the list (scoring 91/120!) as the world’s best workcation city for 2025 in IWG’s Work From Anywhere Barometer. Japan’s capital is known for its exceptional broadband speed, top-tier transport infrastructure, safety, and cultural richness. Rio de Janeiro came second, followed by Budapest, Seoul, and Barcelona. Rome and Paris were also new entries to the list, ranking eighth and ninth, respectively. Here are the top 10 cities.

Alongside Mumbai, other Asian cities such as Jakarta, Beijing, Singapore, Manila, and Hong Kong ranked high on the global list. This year’s research also revealed that 78% of employees consider a ‘work from anywhere’ policy an important factor when searching for a new job. Meanwhile, 87% say working remotely can boost productivity, reduce burnout, and improve work-life balance.
Mark Dixon, founder and CEO of IWG, said, “We’re seeing more workers than ever extending their trips to work remotely or choosing to spend longer periods abroad as digital nomads. Thanks to hybrid working and cloud technology, employees now have the freedom to work wherever and whenever suits them best – whether that’s a local flexible workspace or a co-working centre on the other side of the world. For many, the days of long daily commutes are over, and there is more freedom to work in new locations.”
