Switzerland is known for its stunning Swiss Alps, premium chocolates, and innovative technology. But do you know that the country also serves as the best place to enjoy and relax? No, we are not talking about the tourist spots in the country, but their traditional day off, when most of the country is almost closed. Read on to know more about it.

Switzerland Is Closed On Sundays

Switzerland traditionally observes Sundays as a day off, with the majority of the country remaining virtually closed. If you are visiting Switzerland from a country with a 24/7 retail culture, you may be surprised by its limited shopping hours. People in other countries usually look at Sunday as a day to shop for groceries and fill up on necessary items, but that is not how Switzerland works.

An Indian vlogger, Sarthak Sharma (@sarthakinswiss), who is living in Switzerland, took to his Instagram to share this rare information with his viewers, wherein he stated that not only supermarkets but even police stations are closed in Switzerland on Sundays.

Sharing the video, he said, “Never do this mistake on a Sunday in Switzerland.” He further explained that if you forget to buy food and you come to the supermarket, “then the supermarket is closed.” Even if you need some medicines, “pharmacies are closed.” He then said, “I’ll tell you something better than this. If you have to go to the police and something has been stolen, the police station is also closed.” He also made a humorous remark and said, “Don’t steal on a Sunday.” Additionally, he also showcased how restaurants are also closed, “Now if you think that by mistake I go to the restaurant, then the restaurant is also closed.” He further explained that Sundays are here to chill and enjoy, not to work.

Reason Why Everything Is Closed On Sundays

As per a report by Gazeta Express, the historical reason in this country was that Sunday should be a day of worship, not work. However, with time, the religious aspect has diminished, and it is now looked upon more like a day off spent with families to enjoy and relax. This method promotes better work-life balance for workers in the country, encouraging a better and happier environment.
