Punjab To Get A Modern Vande Bharat Express From Firozpur To Delhi And A Long-Awaited Mohali-Rajpura Rail Line

Big news for travellers in Punjab! The state’s railway network is about to get a major makeover. On Tuesday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced two exciting projects: a Vande Bharat Express connecting Firozpur Cantt to New Delhi and the long-awaited Mohali–Rajpura railway line.

Punjab To Get Fast, Modern Vande Bharat

First up is the new Vande Bharat Express connecting Firozpur Cantt to New Delhi. This modern train will run six days a week (except Wednesdays) and will pass through important cities like Bathinda, Dhuri, Patiala, and Ambala, India TV News reported. For passengers, it means faster, smoother, and more comfortable travel to the national capital. This train is designed to make life easier for everyone travelling across the Malwa region.

The second announcement is something people in the area have been waiting for for almost 50 years: the Mohali–Rajpura railway line. Stretching 18 km and costing around ₹443 crore, this new line will link Chandigarh with key cities in Malwa, including Rajpura, Patiala, and Sangrur. The Punjab government will provide 54 hectares of land to make this project possible. Once approved by the Cabinet, it will finally give locals the connectivity they have long asked for.

Speaking about the projects, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that investment in Punjab’s railways has grown enormously, from ₹225 crore between 2009 and 2014 to over ₹5,421 crore today, according to India TV news. He also mentioned that other major projects, like the redeveloped Chandigarh railway station, are expected to be ready by 2026–27.

New Rail Projects To Transform Punjab Connectivity

These developments aren’t just about trains; they’re about connecting people, cities, and regions, helping the economy grow, and giving travellers modern options that match the pace of today’s world. With these upgrades, Malwa will be much closer to Chandigarh, and Firozpur will be just a quick, comfortable ride away from Delhi.

Political leaders were quick to celebrate. BJP Punjab State President Sunil Jakhar called the projects “two major gifts to Punjab” and thanked the ministers for finally addressing decades-old demands for better rail connectivity.

Punjab is on its way to a railway transformation. New trains, shorter travel times, and improved connections throughout the state and to the national capital will soon make travellers’ lives easier.
