There’s an important update for all US Green Card holders and non-citizens. The United States Department of Homeland Security has announced new entry and exit rules that will take effect on December 26, 2025. These rules are part of the Trump administration’s ongoing crackdown on immigrants in the country. Here’s what you need to know.
US Announces New Entry & Exit Rule For Green Card Holders & Non-Citizens
The US will now require all foreigners, including Green Card holders, to undergo facial recognition and compulsory biometric checks at all entry and exit points from December 26. As per a report by India Today, this new system aims to prevent visa overstays and identity fraud. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is working to expand its collection of photographs and biometric data across land, sea, and airports.
Apart from curbing visa overstays, this new practice will also help strengthen national security and tackle the use of fraudulent travel documents. CBP officers will collect photographs and biometric information from all non-citizens arriving and departing from the US.
It’s also important to note that the new rule removes earlier exemptions for travellers under 14 and over 79 years of age. This means all age groups will now be subject to biometric checks.

Rule To Become Mandatory Across All Airports In The Country
According to India Today, CBP already uses facial recognition technology to verify passengers on international flights at most US airports. But under the new rule, the process will become mandatory across all ports of entry. As per a report by Hindustan Times, passengers can also expect the photographs in their visa applications and passports to be matched using facial comparison technology.
These new rules come amid Trump’s crackdown on immigrants in the country. You should also know that the US has already introduced stricter rules for visa applicants and Green Card holders. One such measure is social media vetting, which, according to Hindustan Times, has led to many visa holders being detained, deported, or having their applications cancelled.
