March has been a long and unpredictable month, bringing a mix of summer heat, winter chills, and even monsoon-like showers–all in just 31 days. And if you were gearing up for a scorching summer, then we have some news for you. The India Meteorological Department has said that temperatures are likely to remain normal or below normal across most parts of India in April with weather forecasts of thunderstorms. Here’s everything you need to know.
April Weather Update: Intense Thunderstorms In India
According to Hindustan Times, IMD has predicted intense thunderstorms across many parts of India in April. Following an unusual spell of rain in Delhi, wet weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week, with cloudy skies likely to persist until April 6. Overall, a mix of brief cooling, rising temperatures, and intermittent rainfall will keep weather conditions variable in the national capital over the next few days.
Northern and northwestern parts of India are likely to witness moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Rain and even snowfall are expected in regions such as Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, as well as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The IMD has also forecast hotter days in parts of eastern India, the Northeast, and adjoining areas of central and peninsular India in April. Night temperatures are likely to remain above normal across most of the country. However, some regions of Maharashtra and Telangana may see normal to below-normal minimum temperatures until June.

How Will This Impact You?
While milder April weather may bring relief to many people across India and help reduce power demand, the possibility of a wetter month is a concern for farmers. Unseasonal rain can damage ready-to-harvest crops, some of which have already been affected by western disturbances in late March. Furthermore, IMD has predicted an 80% chance of El Niño developing in the second half of the monsoon, which could weaken rainfall and impact crops.
