Devotees planning their journey to Vaishno Devi can finally rejoice, as the shrine board has decided to resume the yatra from September 17, 2025. The pilgrimage, which had been suspended due to heavy rains and adverse weather, will restart “subject to favourable weather conditions”. Here’s what we know so far.
Vaishno Devi Yatra Set To Restart On September 17
The holy shrine atop the Trikuta Hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district will reopen for devotees from 17 September, pending safe weather. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which manages the site, announced the update on its official X account. They wrote, “Jai Mata Di Vaishno Devi Yatra shall resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday), subject to favourable weather conditions. Devotees are requested to stay updated through official communication channels.”
According to News18, the pilgrimage had been on hold for 22 days after a landslide on August 26 claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others. The disaster struck the yatra route around 3 pm near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari. Heavy rains reportedly triggered the massive landslide.

Route Declared Safe Ahead Of Navratri
As per a report by India Today, the route to the shrine has now been declared safe. The yatra is expected to attract a large number of devotees in the coming days, especially as Navratri approaches, when footfall at the shrine is typically high.
Pilgrims are advised to carry valid identification cards and follow designated pathways to the shrine. They are also requested to cooperate fully with the on-ground staff for a smooth journey. Authorities have also advised the pilgrims to stay updated through the official communication channels of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of the most important pilgrimages for Hindus. The temple is believed to grant wishes and remove obstacles from one’s life.
Planning your journey carefully and keeping all necessary documents ready will ensure a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage. We hope every devotee enjoys a safe yatra.
