And honestly, the video now going viral on social media is a reminder that no matter what, there will always be people who act like angels for the voiceless in this big world.

You may have seen videos of people rescuing a puppy or a kitten, but have you ever seen people saving the life of a whale shark? The predator got stranded on Varkala Beach in Kerala and was unable to return to the ocean on its own. That’s when tourists stepped in to help. The viral video, posted by Instagram user @surferboy_varkala, shows the whale shark caught in a fisherman’s net. Getting trapped in nets and pulled to the shore is becoming increasingly common for many marine animals.
The user shared that the incident happened around 8 am. Several people, including his mother, worked for over three hours just to rescue the animal. Initially, the tourists managed to push the whale shark deep enough for it to swim away. But it wasn’t far enough, and the shark sadly washed up on the shore again. Once more, everyone came together to push it back into the water.

Despite Bleeding Hands, The Rescue Did Not Stop
The Instagram user, @surferboy_varkala, mentioned that the whale’s skin felt coarse, almost like sandpaper. Many people helping had bleeding hands, but they still did not stop. After nearly three hours, two rescue boats managed to tie a rope around the whale shark’s tail. They finally pulled it into deeper waters. The whale shark was then able to swim freely and safely away. While the incident must have been traumatic for the animal, we hope it recovers soon.
Many netizens praised the bravery and compassion shown by the people at Varkala Beach. One user wrote, “That’s so kind and beautiful. Kudos to the Varkala people,” while another commented, “This is amazing! So proud of the group of people who tried rescuing and putting back the whale shark where it belongs!” Another commented, “Whatta good life experience & a lesson shown to future gen!”
