Mumbai Monorail Prepares To Return Ahead Of Monsoon
According to the Hindustan Times, the Mumbai Monorail is set to make a comeback in June, nearly eight months after services were suspended across the city. Officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s operating arm, MMMOCL, said the long-awaited final safety trials are scheduled to begin this week.
The trials on the 19.54-km corridor will be conducted under the supervision of retired Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) P S Baghel. He will assess key operational aspects, including the rolling stock, signalling and telecommunication systems, automatic fare collection gates, indicators, and service scheduling. If the trials are successful, monorail operations are expected to resume in June.
The city’s monorail network has been temporarily shut down since September 20, 2025, following a series of challenges, including mounting losses, power failures, derailments, and recurring technical glitches.

Here’s All You Need To Know About This
The June opening of the Mumbai Monorail comes after MMMOCL missed several restart deadlines, including May 7 and the end of May. While the Independent Safety Assessor approved the resumption of commercial operations in April, the 19.54-km monorail corridor connecting Sant Ghadge Maharaj Chowk (Jacob Circle) to Chembur via Wadala had already been certified by Bureau Veritas India in February.
The second round of trials is being conducted to address repeated technical failures that had raised serious concerns over passenger safety and the system’s reliability.
