Agra-Lucknow Expressway To Cut Travel Time To Purvanchal
According to reports by NDTV, vehicles travelling from the Agra-Lucknow Expressway towards the Purvanchal Expressway often have to pass through Lucknow city. Depending on traffic, this stretch can take around 1.5 to two hours. The proposed link is expected to bring this travel time down to approximately 25-30 minutes, creating a more direct connection between the two expressway corridors.
The nearly 51-km-long, six-lane expressway is being developed at an estimated cost of around ₹4,775 crore. The proposed route is expected to connect several important highways and expressways, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. Once operational, vehicles travelling from Delhi, Noida, Agra and Mathura could use the new link to reach the Purvanchal Expressway without entering central Lucknow. This could make long-distance journeys more seamless while also reducing traffic pressure on the city’s roads.

The improved network could particularly benefit travellers heading towards destinations such as Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur. It could also provide a more convenient route for traffic travelling further towards Gorakhpur and the Nepal border.
The Expressway Could Ease Lucknow Traffic
One of the major benefits of the project could be the diversion of heavy commercial traffic away from Lucknow. A significant number of trucks currently pass through the city while travelling between the western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
By providing an alternative route, the expressway could reduce the number of heavy vehicles using city roads. This may help ease congestion, improve traffic movement and potentially reduce vehicular pollution.
The project could therefore serve a dual purpose: shortening intercity travel while taking through-traffic away from Lucknow. Once integrated with the state’s growing expressway network, the Lucknow Link Expressway could strengthen road connectivity between western Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal.
