Amdavad (Ahmedabad) has officially made history! India has been chosen to host the Centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030, and the spotlight is shining brightly on Gujarat. The announcement came during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, where delegates from 74 member nations and territories voted to bring the Games to India for this once-in-100-years celebration.

Ahmedabad Wins The 2030 Commonwealth Games Bid

This is especially significant because the first-ever Commonwealth Games took place exactly a century ago in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada. Now, India gets to host the grand Centenary edition, an honour that places the country at the centre of global sport once again.

Leaders across the Commonwealth hailed India’s win. According to Commonwealth Sport, Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, called this the beginning of a “new golden era” for the Games and Dr. P.T. Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, said India is “deeply honoured” and promised the 2030 Games would set the tone for the next 100 years of global sporting unity.

Amdavad will host 15 to 17 sports, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, table tennis, weightlifting, netball, and boxing. India also has the chance to add up to two new sports, possibly something traditional or uniquely Indian, making the Centenary Games even more special.
