His resignation comes at a time when the airline is grappling with operational disruptions, rising costs, and a likely record loss this year.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson Steps Down

According to Hindustan Times, Campbell Wilson has stepped down as CEO of Air India. His resignation was reportedly accepted at a board meeting last week. He will continue in the role until a successor is appointed to ensure a smooth transition and is likely to remain with the company until September.

Campbell Wilson joined Air India as CEO and Managing Director in September 2022 on a five-year contract, shortly after the airline was privatised in January that year. He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, having worked across both full-service and low-cost carriers.

Reports suggest his five-year term was originally scheduled to end in September 2027. The search for a successor began in January after he expressed his intention not to continue beyond his contract. A source told HT that the airline is already in advanced discussions with candidates, with a key meeting on the matter expected next week. The airline is yet to comment in this matter.

Inside Campbell Wilson’s 30-Year Journey In The Aviation Industry

Before joining Air India, Campbell Wilson served as CEO of Scoot, the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines (SIA). He began his aviation career with Singapore Airlines in 1996 as a management trainee in New Zealand. Over the years, he held several roles across global markets, including Canada, Hong Kong, and Japan.

In 2011, he returned to Singapore as the founding CEO of Scoot, a position he held until 2016. He later served as Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing at SIA, before returning for a second stint as Scoot’s CEO in April 2020. He holds a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
