Amid rain-induced flight delays and cancellations, an Air India Delhi-Indore flight made an emergency landing shortly after taking off on August 31. A fire indication from the aircraft’s right engine was the reason behind the sudden detour. Here’s more on what happened on that fateful flight.
Air India Cockpit Crew Warned Of Fire Indication In Engine
As per a report by Hindustan Times, Flight AI2913 flying from Delhi to Indore was met with a sudden change in plans. Shortly after it departed from the national capital, the cockpit crew received a fire warning. The Air India aircraft’s right engine warned of a fire indication. The airline informed in a statement that the pilots were alerted about a potential fire hazard in the right engine.
The Tata Group-owned airline stated that the Air India Delhi-Indore flight flew back to Delhi just after takeoff. Heeding the warning, the cockpit crew quickly shut down the affected right engine. And the flight was flown back to Delhi. Following the emergency protocols, the aircraft took an emergency U-turn. An Air India spokesperson informed that the passengers were directed towards an alternative aircraft.

Aircraft Undergoes Inspection; Passengers Shifted To Alternative Flight
Furthermore, Air India informed in its statement that the affected aircraft is currently grounded for inspection. Meanwhile, passengers aboard the Delhi-Indore flight were transferred to an alternative aircraft on August 31. This flight will take off from Indore shortly. With DGCA informed of the incident, Air India, in its statement, informed that it regrets the inconvenience caused to the fliers. Keeping the safety of passengers and crew as the top priority, this decision was taken instantly and acted upon.
Moreover, the Air India spokesperson informed HT that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been made aware of the fire indication incident. This comes just weeks after an Air India Kochi-Delhi flight faced delays due to a technical issue. The cockpit crew aborted the departure as a safety measure, and the aircraft was taken back into the bay for further inspection.
