On Saturday, India’s leading airlines, Air India and IndiGo, announced the suspension of all flights to destinations across the Middle East amid the rapidly growing security crisis in the region. After escalating armed hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran triggered widespread airspace closures. Read on to know more about the development.
IndiGo, Air India Suspend All Middle East Flights
After the ongoing tension, IndiGo stated that in view of growing airspace restrictions around Iran and the Middle East, all flights to and from the Middle East have been cancelled till 0000 hours.
According to the Economic Times, SpiceJet also released a statement saying that due to airspace closure in Dubai, some of the flights may be affected. The announcement came just after an Air India flight en route from India to Tel Aviv was forced to return back mid-journey following the closure of regional airspace.

As per the news portal, amid the ongoing situation, Delhi airport issued an advisory stating that international flights to the West may experience disruptions. Many airlines around the world have cancelled or suspended operations to Israel and Iran amid ongoing tensions in the area. The disruption not only affected flights to these countries but also impacted routes to other parts of the world that use their airspace.
Other Countries That Suspended Their Flight Operations To Israel & Iran
Not only this, but Qatar also announced that it has temporarily halted all air traffic as a precautionary measure. Oman Air also shut down its flight operations to Baghdad due to the evolving situation in the region. German airline Lufthansa has also suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv, Beirut and Amman until March 7.
As per India Today, a flydubai spokesperson stated that some of its flights have been impacted due to the temporary closure of Iraqi, Iranian, and Israeli airspace on Saturday. As per the Iraqi state news agency, Iraq Airport also announced the suspension of all air traffic. Other countries like Russia and France have also cancelled their flights to Israel and Iran.
