In an unfortunate turn of events, a bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora has left the nation mourning. At least seven people lost their lives after the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals. Here’s what we know so far.
Bus Accident In Almora Leaves 7 People Dead
Seven people were killed, and 11 others were injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Almora’s Bhikiyasen area on Tuesday morning. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the bus belonged to Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) and was travelling towards Ramnagar when the driver lost control. Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and teams from the district administration rushed to the spot as soon as they received information about the accident.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Devendra Pincha told Hindustan Times that 18 people were travelling in the KMVN mini bus. The bodies of the seven victims were retrieved, while the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed sorrow over the incident. He wrote, “We have received the extremely distressing news of a bus accident on the Bikhiyasain-Vinayak Motor Road, which was en route from Bikhiyasain to Ramnagar in Almora district, resulting in casualties among the passengers. This incident is profoundly painful and heart-wrenching.” The CM also added that the situation is being closely monitored and he is in constant contact with local administrative authorities.

Injured Passengers Shifted To Hospitals
According to a report by Live Mint, local police had to pull survivors out of the wreckage before transporting them to nearby medical facilities. Some passengers were trapped inside the vehicle. Critically injured travellers have been referred to higher medical centres for better treatment.
As per a report by Hindustan Times, Uttarakhand reports over 1,000 road accidents every year. Winding and narrow roads, along with mountainous terrain, are often cited as major reasons behind these accidents. The situation tends to worsen during the monsoon and winter seasons, when road visibility drops.
