Andhra Pradesh: 2 Coaches Of Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express Train Catch Fire; One Dead

One man lost his life after a fire broke out in two coaches of the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express in Andhra Pradesh. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday near Elamanchili railway station. Most passengers were evacuated safely, but later, a body was recovered from one of the charred coaches of the train. Here’s what happened.

Fire Breaks Out In Andhra Pradesh Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express

According to a report by India Today, the incident took place in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district at around 1 am on Monday near Elamanchili railway station. The train was moving as usual when the loco pilot noticed flames rising from one of the coaches of the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express. The loco pilot immediately brought the train to a halt.

Most passengers were swiftly evacuated. However, a body was later found inside a charred coach. Reportedly, the fire originated in the B1 coach and quickly spread to the adjacent B2 coach. As a precautionary measure, railway officials decided to detach both affected coaches along with the adjoining M1 coach. This was done to prevent the fire from spreading further. X user, @RailTatanagar, also shared devastating visuals of the fire on their account.

One Passenger Dies In Train Fire

As per a report by India Today, there were 82 passengers in one of the affected coaches and 76 in the other when the fire occurred. While most passengers were evacuated safely, one passenger lost his life. The deceased was identified as Chandrasekhar Sundaram. He was 70 years old. His body was recovered from the B1 coach. The train was travelling from Tatanagar in Churu district of Rajasthan to Kerala’s Ernakulam when the fire was detected.

The blaze caused thick smoke, triggering panic among passengers. According to a report by News18, firefighters from nearby stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control quickly. Ambulances were arranged, and alternative travel arrangements were made for the remaining passengers. All belongings of the passengers were completely destroyed in the fire.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
