Ever opened a tub of ice cream only to find that annoying icy layer on top, the one that instantly ruins the creamy texture? Yeah, we’ve all been there! With summer almost here and ice cream becoming our ultimate go-to, we’ve found two simple methods to keep the freezer burns away and your dessert perfectly creamy. Scroll on and try it out this season!
How To Store Your Ice Cream Without That Top Icy Layer?
Shashank Alshi (@alshihacks) is famous for sharing clever hacks to solve everyday problems, and he’s back just in time to save our ice cream this summer. In his recent video, he explained that the icy layer on top is actually freezer burn. It forms when air gets into the tub, causing moisture to turn into ice crystals, ultimately ruining both the texture and taste of your ice cream.
He did what he does best and experimented with four different storage methods to fix this issue. He took four tubs of ice cream, and the first tub was stored as is after opening. For the second, he tested a popular hack that suggests placing the tub upside down to help prevent freezer burn. He stored both tubs in the freezer for a week, and without much suspense, the result was clear. In both cases, a layer of ice had formed on top of the ice cream.

Try These 2 Methods To Keep It Creamy!
For the third ice cream tub, he placed butter paper directly on the ice cream surface. The result? Even after a week in the same freezer as the earlier two, this one had no ice! This is because the butter paper created a barrier between the ice cream and the air. “This reduces ice crystal formation. Result? No ice layer and perfect creamy taste,” he explained.
The last experiment was a bit elaborate but a successful one! He zipped the ice cream tub, not letting any air enter the bag. Shashank found it to be the most effective method. “By removing air using the water-submerge technique, you create an almost airtight environment. No air means no freezer burn. Result? Smooth texture, no ice layer, and original taste intact,” he shared elaborately.
