Bengaluru Highway Dhabas Fined For Poor Food Quality

After several complaints regarding poor food quality and unhygienic conditions, the Karnataka Health Department recently inspected highway dhabas near Bengaluru. According to The New Indian Express, fines amounting to ₹1.45 lakh were imposed for violations of food quality and hygiene norms. During the inspection, 41 dhabas were checked, and authorities collected 16 samples for laboratory testing.

On the Nelamangala-Tumakuru road, eight dhabas were inspected, and four samples were collected. Fines of around ₹30,000 were imposed on them. A penalty of ₹85,000 was imposed on dhabas along the Nelamangala-Kunigal stretch, where nine eateries were inspected, and four samples were collected. Apart from this, officials also inspected eight dhabas on the Tumakuru-Chitradurga highway and imposed fines of ₹30,000.

Inspections Aim To Ensure Safe And Hygienic Food For Travellers

The main aim of these inspections was to ensure that travellers stopping for meals on highways get safe and hygienic food. These highway dhabas are also very popular among truck drivers, especially during long journeys. According to News Karnataka, regular inspections help authorities monitor kitchen cleanliness, ingredient quality, food storage, and hygiene.

If laboratory tests reveal further violations, these dhabas near Bengaluru can face stricter penalties and even legal action. Thousands of people depend on these eateries every day, and their health and safety cannot be compromised. Yes, eating at dhabas is a wholesome experience, but hygiene matters more.
