The Namma Metro has received all six coaches of the newly arrived fifth trainset for the yellow line. As per a report by Times Now, a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official stated that the coaches reached the Hebbagodi depot late on Sunday night, followed by another three coaches around Monday midnight.

These coaches were dispatched from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited on trailers in the early hours of September 19. After authorities assemble the coaches at the Bengaluru depot, the train will undergo a 20-day testing cycle. The testing will include system integration checks with signalling, telecommunications, and power supply networks. Each train is equipped with Communication-Based Train Control Technology (CBTC), which will enable driverless operations, a first for Namma Metro. Amazing, right?

These advanced systems can reduce intervals between trains from the current 150 seconds to 90 seconds, though manual operation by trained locomotive pilots will continue during the initial phase. Operations are expected to enter passenger service by mid-October after all mandatory checks.

New Trainset Expected To Improve Frequency

As per a report by Hindustan Times, the 18.82 km Yellow Line connects RV Road to Bommasandra. The line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10. At launch, the corridor operated with only three trains, forcing commuters to wait over 25 minutes during peak hours. This caused inconvenience and overcrowding at platforms.

The addition of a fourth trainset on September 10 slightly improved frequency, reducing wait time to 19 minutes. With the fifth trainset, officials expect to further ease overcrowding. However, additional trains will still be required to achieve optimal results.
