The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was inaugurated about three years ago and has come under scrutiny for its poorly designed access points, absence of service roads, and inadequate pedestrian facilities. These issues have contributed to frequent accidents along the route. Now, a safety upgrade plan has been approved to improve the expressway. Scroll on to know more about this.
Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway To Get Safety Upgrades
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, connecting Karnataka’s two major cities, is about 118 km long and has a 6‑lane main carriageway with two‑lane service roads on either side. It was built at an approximate cost of ₹8,000 crore. Despite its importance, the expressway has always come under scrutiny for missing service roads and poorly planned entry and exit ramps, Hindustan Times reported.
Now, the central government has approved a ₹711.72 crore safety upgrade project on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will take care of these upgrades over the next two years. The project will address the accident-prone stretches and add service roads, shelters, and ramps to improve pedestrian and road safety.

2. About 22.5 km of service roads will be constructed to improve connectivity along the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.
3. Seven pedestrian underpasses, three railway overbridges, and a flyover near Mysuru’s Manipal Hospital junction will be developed.
