The Lingaraj Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the oldest temples in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is also the largest temple in the city and one of its major tourist attractions. The temple already looks majestic on a normal day. But ahead of Maha Shivratri celebrations on February 15, 2026, it looks even more breathtaking. X user, Mayank Tiwari, a traveller and a drone pilot, uploaded a video of the decorated temple on his account. 

The temple has been illuminated with thousands of diyas (oil lamps) and decorative lighting. The glow also helps to highlight its ancient stone structure and gives it a deeply spiritual aura. Plus, the warm golden lights make the temple look powerful and divine.

Visuals Look Mesmerising

The visuals of the temple have amazed thousands of devotees online. They called it “divine” and “mesmerising.” Large numbers of devotees gathered at the temple. They offered prayers and lit oil lamps across the premises. It should be noted that the sacred Mahadeep (grand diya) will be placed atop the temple at 10 pm on February 15. This will officially mark the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

According to a report by Ommcom News, devotees will break their fast after a night of prayers. For those interested in history, historians believe the kings of the Somavamsi dynasty built the Lingaraj Temple. The temple showcases classic Kalinga architecture. The Temple Trust Board, along with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), maintains the temple.
