Patna’s double-deck flyover is the city’s first elevated corridor and was inaugurated on June 11, 2025. On Sunday, just two months after the inauguration, a part of the 2.2-kilometre flyover reportedly sank due to heavy rainfall. A now-viral video shows a large crater in the flyover, raising many concerns.
Part Of Patna Double-Deck Flyover Sinks
According to Hindustan Times, heavy rainfall has caused part of the Patna double-deck flyover, built at a cost of ₹422 crore, to sink on Sunday. The flyover was built to decongest the congested Ashok Rajpath and was constructed between Kargil Chowk at Gandhi Maidan to Science College via Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Media reports suggest that due to heavy and continuous rainfall in Patna over the last few days, many low-lying areas have been waterlogged. These include key areas like Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road, and Gandhi Maidan.
The monsoon is at its peak in Bihar right now. The state’s meteorological department has issued an ‘orange’ alert for several districts, with more rainfall warnings for the next 48 hours. This alert has been raised for Patna, Gayaji, Jamui, Aurangabad, Khagaria, Banka, Vaishali, Samastipur, Seikhpura, Lakhisarai, East Champaran, Arwal, West Champaran and Nawada.
