Harsh Goenka Trolls South Mumbai’s Obsession With Truffle And Its Oil
Before getting to his post, let’s understand what truffles and truffle oil actually are. Truffles are a type of fungus. They are known for their strong, earthy flavour with hints of garlic. Truffle oil is made using truffles infused in a carrier oil, most commonly olive oil. Yes, it adds flavour to a dish when added at the end of cooking. But sometimes, the obsession can get out of hand. Truffles and truffle oil have also become popular ingredients in many upscale restaurants in South Mumbai.
Some chefs in these restaurants and cafes use this exclusive and expensive ingredient to add flavour to a range of dishes. These include not just salads but also pizzas, burgers, fries and even Indian dishes! Now, Harsh Goenka has hilariously taken a sarcastic dig at this new obsession. He took to his Instagram and mentioned how people in South Mumbai only eat fresh white and black truffles. Looking at these expensive truffles, all of them turn into part-time “Michelin inspectors” who pretend to recall their long “Tuscan summers in Alba”. Harsh Goenka also added that one would also say something like, “This truffle has been flown in by a man named Lorenzo who handpicks them under moonlight.”

It’s a well-known fact that truffles and truffle oil are expensive. And using them as a flavouring agent in all your dishes obviously signals fine-dining tastes and choices. Harsh Goenka also sarcastically added that sometimes people often say, “Lovely. Now please bring the burrata.. and the 25-year-aged balsamic vinegar, anything younger is for those Bandra folks,” and honestly, we couldn’t control our laughter. Just like us, netizens were also amused by Harsh Goenka’s humour.
One of them wrote, “Absolutely on point.” Another one added, “Love it.” Many reacted with laughing emoticons under the post.
