March 2026 felt unusually long, but with festivals like Holi, Eid, Navratri, and major sporting events like the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the start of the Indian Premier League, there was plenty to keep spirits high. Amid this festive buzz, Swiggy observed some interesting food trends, especially during Eid and Navratri, and here’s all you need to know about them.

Swiggy Delivered 200 Biryanis Per Minute On Eid!

According to data shared by Swiggy, biryani was the clear favourite during Eid al-Fitr, with over 200 orders placed every minute across the country on March 21, 2026. A resident from Noida placed the highest single order worth ₹38,165 on that day, while a user in Mumbai ordered three large packs of mutton biryani worth ₹15,866, which is enough to serve around 15 people.

Besides savoury, desserts were also equally in demand during the festivities, with indulgent treats like choco lava cake and gulab jamun topping the list. In fact, gulab jamun alone saw an average of 11 orders per minute nationwide.

Major metros such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi recorded high order volumes. Meanwhile, cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Surat, and Mangaluru also saw strong demand. Among smaller markets, Shillong, Agartala, and Dibrugarh led the surge in orders.

Orders During Navratri Grew 25% This Season

Meanwhile, Swiggy’s Food on Train service delivered over 5,700 Holi-special meals, highlighting the growing demand for convenience even while travelling. Popular picks during this time included samosa, lassi, and pyaaz kachori. Later in the month, during Navratri, Swiggy recorded a 25% increase in orders compared to April 2025.

Data from Swiggy shows that orders peaked on March 22, 2026, at 8:06 PM with 4,800 orders placed in a single minute. During Navratri, sabudana khichdi emerged as the top favourite, with 222 orders placed every hour across India. Sabudana vada followed closely at 156 orders per hour, while traditional Vrat Thalis saw nearly 120 orders per hour.

Among metros, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Gurgaon recorded the highest volume of Navratri orders. In emerging markets, cities like Bareilly, Bhopal, and Dehradun led the demand for festive meals. One Delhi customer spent ₹11,980 on a lavish Navratri feast, ordering 10 Navratri Special Vrat Thalis, 10 Special Veg Thalis, and 20 glasses of Masala Chaas—highlighting the convenience of ordering festive meals for friends and family.
