As part of her series, ‘Foods That Are Fire’, aspiring psychologist and nutrition enthusiast, @aaryaasonik, often talks about foods, fruits and veggies that can not only help your body feel better but also “rewire your brain chemistry.” Recently, she uploaded a video about cloves and how they can reduce stress and calm the nervous system.
Cloves may be tiny, often used in Indian cooking, but they are packed with benefits. They contain an active compound called eugenol, which can lower cortisol, the stress hormone in our bodies. On top of that, having cloves can also boost serotonin in our bodies. Known as the ‘happy hormone’, serotonin uplifts mood, regulates sleep, aids digestion and makes us feel good overall! Amazing, right? Who would have thought this tiny spice was a natural stress reliever?

How To Add Them To Your Diet
By now, you must be wondering how to include cloves in your daily diet. This aspiring psychologist has a simple solution. Take 2-3 cloves, boil them in water and drink them after meals, before bedtime or even on an empty stomach. Otherwise, instead of boiling the spice, you can soak it overnight in water as well. It’s honestly such an easy remedy.
Because one, cloves are already in our kitchens; two, it’s completely natural; and three, it’s super easy to make. According to her, you can even have it daily.
Many of her followers thanked her in the comments for sharing this trick. One wrote, “I’m literally having it right now while I’m watching you reel, what a coincidence, and yes, you’re right – it’s great.” Another shared a tip and suggested adding fenugreek seeds to balance the heat of cloves, as they have cooling properties.
